Huge plugs

Can someone hint me why in the UK we need plugs at least twice as big as those in continental Europe?. Yeah, I know, there is a fuse in them that adds safety. But then the question is, why they do not need the fuse on the continent?.

I think that British plugs are much better than anywhere else - the reason I like them so much is that they fit snugly into position. In other countries, they are very wobbly. With the British triangle-shaped plug, you don't have this wobblyness.

Its down to saftey regulations. Which is in itself odd, as other countries sometimes have the plugs at chest hight to stop little kids sticking theings in them.
My only beef with the plugs is the way the cable comes out underneath them, which makes them harder to pull out sometimes.
Though having the small two pin plugs for stuff that doesn't need aearth doe save alot of space.
Incidently, where i live now, some workmen installed new sockets, but they installed them so close to the floor, that you can't actualy put plugs in them! (the cable gets in the way).
